How are you planning to leverage that even though you are predominantly based out of the US? India is in the middle of a digital boom. The show touches upon many things, but we don’t take them head-on or tell them in an offensive manner. It shouldn’t be a common thing, but it does happen. The show also deals with xenophobia and misplaced Islamophobia. We talk about how it was relatively easier for Indians to travel to the US earlier, but stricter visa rules have made it a problem now. If it does, I will be very happy! We do talk about politics and issues that affect the Indian diaspora. Is it true that the show makes a comment on the current political scenario in the US? The show has a lot of universal themes - like survival, success, making sure your wife is happy! (Laughs) I have very strong connections with India and a lot of the struggles my character goes through - including being married and getting ready for his first child - are extremely relevant, relatable and universal. And that’s what made me sign on, primarily… the relatability factor. Though I was born in America, I can relate to how my parents feel as immigrants. You will find a lot of quirky characters here. There is a lot of comedy in that world built around the fact that how do you hold on to the culture, how much do you let go of it, what do you have to do to survive…. The show focuses on south Asians living in America and how they manage to retain their culture in the westernised world.
